An 18-year-old van driver, Joseph Kenneth Crone, of 28, Vicars-field,
Kendal, was fined £2 and ordered to pay £1 11s.
at Cockermouth, to-day, for driving a motor van dangerously.
His licence was endorsed.
John Easton said he was approaching a bus when Crone came from
behind it. Witness was forced to turn his vehicle on to the
six-inch kerb to avoid defendant's van.
Crone stated that he had been forced to pull out to avoid a
cyclist who had wobbled.

to Betty, only daughter of Dr. Wall, M.C., M.B., Ch.B., and
Mrs. Wall, of Hoo Rochester.

and Mrs. Michael C. L. Hodgson, of South Bank. Kents Bank-road,
Grange - over - Sands, have received word that their eldest
son, Staff Captain Michael B. W. Hodgson, has been killed in
Burma. His brother, Captain Terry Hodgson. is also in Burma.
Staff Captain Hodgson, who was 29 years of age, was a native
of Kendal, and was educated at Kendal Grammar School. He was
a partner in the firm of Michael B. W. Hodgson and Palmer, auctioneers
and estate agents, of Kendal and Windermere.
Earlier this year he was wounded, and was in hospital for three
weeks before joining his unit
