MINWORTH AND CURDWORTH WAR MEMORIALS

Within Warwickshire the two villages of Minworth and Curdworth are roughly 1¾ miles apart.The first is a Roll of Honour listing those who served and those who died and is affixed to the wall within St. George the Martyr Church, Water Orton Lane, Minworth, Warwickshire listing those from both Minworth and Curdworth who served and died in World War 1; in addition there is a further wall mounted plaque listing those from Minworth who gave their lives in borth World War 1 and World War 2; a further plaque lists those who fell from Minworth Council School during the 1914-1919 war; a singular memorial in the form of an elaborate, coloured cross with the image of Christ hanging from it and a plaque at the bottom commemorating Private E. J. Hewitt. In St. Nicholas & St. Peter ad Vincula Church, Glebe Fields, off Coleshill Road, Curdworth there are several memorials. The first contains the same detailed Roll of Honour as Minworth. Additionally there is a further wall mounted plaque listing those from Curdworth who gave their lives in both World War 1 and World War 2; another wall mounted tablet lists those from Curdworth Aerodrome who died in the 1914-1919 War. There is also a memorial in the form of a propellor affixed to the wall commemorating Lisutenant Sidney Woodrow who died in a flying accident.

The Roll of Honour lists for Curdworth 65 names and for Minworth 99 names. The Roll of Honour lists 164 names in total, 121 served and returned and 43 gave their lives. The names here have been sorted into alphabetical order within parish. The names on the RoH that appear on the other memorials are linked just click on the blue link. Similarly certain names on the memorials are also linked.

CLARKE	[Albert] Ernest	Private 5122101, 2nd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Killed in action 11 July 1943. Aged 29. Born 31 January 1914. Son of Albert and Mabel Elizabeth Clarke; husband of Ethel Clarke, of Curdworth, Warwickshire. In the 1939 Register he was a Grocer's Assistant, resident with his parents at 45 High Street, Coleshill, Meriden R.D., Warwickshire. Buried in SYRACUSE WAR CEMETERY, SICILY, Italy. Plot IV. Row E. MOSELEY	William	Corporal 1061036, Army Catering Corps. Died 6 January 1946. Aged 44. Born 5 September 1901. Born and resident Birmingham. Son of John and Eliza Moseley; husband of Gertrude Sarah (nee Whitehead) Moseley, of Curdworth, married October to December Quarter 1925 in Meriden Registration District, Warwickshire. In the 1939 Register he was a Tractor Driver, married to Gertrude S Moseley, resident Newlands Cottages, Curdworth, Meriden R.D., Warwickshire. Buried in North-West part of CURDWORTH (SS. NICHOLAS AND PETER) CHURCHYARD, Warwickshire.
