The memorial is to be found within the village cemetery attached to the parish church of St. Peter, Wenhaston. The memorial takes the form of a Portland stone Greek cross on a two stepped base. The memorial was designed by the artist Mr Arthur G Walker, RA and was unveiled 14 November 1920. Twenty-two names are listed for World War 1 and five for World War 2. Details appeared in the Halesworth Times 17 November 1920 and East Anglian Daily Times, 18 November 1920.

BLOWERS	Percy [Newman]	Private G/17387, 7th Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Killed in action 6 August 1918. Aged 19. Born and resident Wenhaston, enlisted London. Son of Mrs Catherine Laura Friend of Wenhaston. Buried in Beacon Cemetery, Sailly-Laurette, Somme, France. Plot III. Row E. Grave 10.
BROWN	Joseph	Boy 1st Class J/29068, Royal Navy. HMS Clan McNaughton. Lost with his ship 3 February 1915. Aged 16. Born 12 August 1898 in Halesworth, Suffolk. Son of William and Ellen Brown of Church Terrace, Wenhaston. He was 5 feet 4 inches, girth 33¾ inches, hair dark brown, eyes brown, complexion dark. No known grave. Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent. Panel 10. Joseph Brown died when HMS Clan McNaughton, an armed merchant cruiser, sank in a storm off the coast of Northern Ireland. It is believed that HMS Clan McNaughton hit a mine during the storm. There were no survivors from the 261 crew
BULLEN	Frank [Percy]	Private 235618, 7th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. Killed in action 17 April 1918. Aged 24. Born Eliston, Suffolk, enlisted Norwich, resident Dereham, Norfolk. Son of Percy and Annie Louisa Bullen of Wenhaston. Formerly 2098, Cyclist Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Buried in The Huts Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot XI. Row D. Grave 16.
BURROWS, DSM	Allan	Able Seaman 219730, HMS Sumana, Royal Navy. Died at Kut from effects of wounds in head 18 March 1916. Born 6 July 1886 in Halesworth, Suffolk. Husband of Selina L. Burrows, of Willow Cottage, Stones Green, Nr. Gt. Oakley, Essex. Buried in Kut War Cemetery, Iraq (Mesopotamia). Section F. Grave 3. Originally attached to the sloop HMS Alert, which operated against gun runners in the Persian Gulf, Able Seaman Burrows was transferred to the armed tug HMS Somana. Awarded a DSM for services during the advance on Kut in 1915, Able Seaman Burrows was part of the crew that detached a 12 pound and a 3 pound gun from HMS Somana, and mounted them ashore to assist the defence
CLARKE, DCM	William Peter	Company Sergeant Major 267101, 2nd/1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Killed in action 22 August 1917. Aged 26. Born and resident Wenhaston, enlisted Beccles. Son of Samuel James and Minnie Hannah Clarke (stepmother) of Blackheath, Wenhaston. Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (D.C.M.). Formerly 1836, Suffolk Regiment. No known grave. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 96 to 98. DCM citation London Gazette 18 July 1917: 267101 Sjt. W.P. CLARKE For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On observing a party of the enemy attempting to get through our outpost lines, he, on his own initiative took two men and advanced on the enemy and attacked them. By means of bombs and rifle fire he dispersed a party greatly superior in numbers.
COOPER	Sidney	Private 15274, 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Killed in action in Salonika 4 October 1916. Aged 21. Born Wenhaston, enlisted Ipswich. Son of H W J and Emma Elizabeth Cooper of Red House, Wherstead, Ipswich. Native of Wenhaston. Buried in Struma Military Cemetery, Greece. Plot IV. Row C. Grave 9.
EBBS	Frank [Edward]	Private 93993, 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). Killed in action 15 September 1917. Aged 21. Enlisted Bury St Edmund's, resident Halesworth. Son of Edward and Emma Ebbs of Wenhaston. Buried in Woods Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot II. Row BB. Grave 3.
EBBS	Henry Stephen	[Harry on memorial] Private G/10306, 1st Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Killed in action 5 March 1917. Born St. James, South Elham, Suffolk, enlisted Lowestoft, resident Wenhaston. Buried in Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay, Pas de Calais, France. Plot I. Row O. Grave 15.
ETHERIDGE	Albert Charles	Private 782356, 49th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Died 30 Ocotber 1917. Aged 41. Born 3 August 1876 in Middlesex. Son of George and Clara Etheridge, of Belvedere Cottage, Wenhaston, Halesworth, Suffolk. Farmer by trade. Unmarried. Enlisted and passed fit 5 April 1916 at Moose Jaw, Saskatewan, Canada, aged 39 years 6 months, height 5 feet 5½ inches, girth 35 inches, complexion light, eyes blue, hair light, religious denomination Methodist. HAMMOND	Leonard	Private 12948, 8th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died of wounds 12 October 1917. Aged 24. Born Carlton Colville, Norfolk, enlisted Elmswell. Son of James and Eliza Hammond of Poplar Cottages, Wenhaston. No known grave. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 40 to 41 and 162 to 162A.
JOLLY	Frederick George	[Spelt JOLLEY on CWGC] Trooper 8867, 20th Hussars. Killed in action 27 October 1917. Aged 24. Born and resident Bramworth, enlisted Ipswich. Son of Jephta and Harriett E. Jolley of Brickyard Cottage, Mells, Halesworth. No known grave. Commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, Nord, France. Panel 1.
NAPTHINE	Clare George	Private 15030, "D" Company, 9th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Died 16 September 1916 [CWGC] or 12 September 1916 [SDGW]. Aged 28. Born Plythburg, Suffolk, enlisted Ipswich. Son of James and Mary Napthine of "The Heath," Wenhaston. Husband of Edith May Napthine of 45 Waller Street, Luton. Buried in Serre Road Cemetery No 2, Somme, France. Plot XXXIII. Row F. Grave 1.
NEWSON	Alfred	Private 23843, 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Killed in action 3 August 1916. Aged 20. Born Wenhaston, enlisted Halesworth. Son of A and Elizabeth Newson of Coles Hill, Wenhaston. No known grave. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier and Face 1 C and 2 A.
PEARCE	Arthur	Boy 1st Class J/26684, HMS Goliath, Royal Navy. Lost when his ship was sunk 13 May 1915. Aged 17. Born 20 October 1897 in Halesworth. Son of the late Edith Florence Pearce. Height 5 feet 1 inch, girth 35½ inches, hair brown, eyes hazel, complexion freckled. No known grave. Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent. Panel 10. In 1915, the battleship HMS Goliath was part of the Naval force that took part in the Gallipoli landings, giving naval gunfire support at Cape Helles. On 28 April and again on 2nd May 1915, she sustained damage from Turkish guns. On the night of 13th May 1915, she was hit by a torpedo fired from the Turkish motor torpedo boat Muavenet, sinking quickly with the loss of 570 of her crew

ROBERTS	Harry	Skipper, HM Drifter Colonial, Royal Naval Reserve. Died 22 July 1918. Aged 42. Son of Robert and Harriet Roberts of Wenhaston. Husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Roberts. Buried in Wenhaston (St Peter) Churchyard, Suffolk. Plot/Row/Section E. Grave 18. Skipper Roberts death was recorded at Falmouth
SAFFELL	Harry	possibly Harry Philip SAFFELL, Driver L/21782, "B" Battery, 159th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 24 October 1917. Enlisted and resident Straford, Lond S.E. Buried in Ruisseau Farm Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen. Belgium. Plot/Row/Section B. Grave 2.
SILLETT	Sidney [Albert]	Lance Corporal 13098, 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Killed in action 3 July 1916. Aged 19. Born Wenhaston, enlisted Ipswich. Son of John and Blanche Mary Sillett of High Street, Wenhaston. No known grave. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier and Face 1 C and 2 A.
SPOORE	Samuel George	Private G/15107, 6th Battalion, Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). Killed in action 7 October 1916. Born Bulcamp, Suffolk, enlisted Halesworth, resident Wenhaston. No known grave. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Soome, France. Pier and Face 11 C.
WILSON	William [Herbert Dundonald]	Ordinary Seaman J/54445, HMS Royal Oak, Royal Navy. Killed or died by means other than disease, accident or enemy action 17 April 1918. Aged 18. Born 28 February 1888 in Halesworth. Son of Ephraim George and Catherine Florence Wilson of Wenhaston. Buried in Wenhaston (St Peter) Churchyard, Suffolk. Plot/Row/Section 3. Grave 12E. The place and cause of Ordinary Seaman Wilson’s death are unknown

CULLINGFORD	Robert [Emanuel]	Engineman LT/KX 113987, H.M. Trawler Lord St. Vincent, Royal Naval Patrol Service. Died 9 July 1941. Son of Eliza M. Cullingford, of Wenhaston. Buried in ST. PETER CHURCHYARD, WENHASTON, Suffolk.
