Seaman J/34772, Royal Navy. HMS Vanguard. Died 9 July 1917. Aged
19. Son of Herbert and Mary Ann Frost of Newbourne. Commemorated
on the Chatham Naval Memorial. While at anchor in Scapa Flow, on
9th July 1917, HMS Vanguard suffered an enormous explosion, believed
to have been set off by unstable cordite. Only three of her crew
of over 800 survived. |

Aged 38. Son of Henry and Emma Prentice of Fenn Lane, Newbourne.
Born Jan-Mar 1879 Waldringfield and joined the army by the 1901
Census where he is a private at the Colchester Garrison 1911 serving
in India, he is with his parents on the 1881 census and then on
the 1891 is living with his maternal grandparents at Great Bealings,
Suffolk. His brother Charles also fell - see Waldringfield
memorial. Commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey. Panel 1456. |
