In the 1901 census he was aged 13, born Newton Purcell, son Mary Holton (a widow), resident Newton Morrell, Newton Purcell, Bicester, Oxfordshire. No known grave. On the 14 September 1942 he was transported with 725 other PoW's on the Nishi Maru to Singapore arriving 18 September 1942; then on 9 October 1942 he was transported with another 672 PoW's from Singapore on an unknown ship to Kuching, Borneo. Buried in LABUAN WAR CEMETERY, Malasia. Plot N. Row B. Grave 16. |
