The
Hartwell War Memorial stands in the grounds of Hartwell Parish Church,
Hartwell. It takes the form of a stone cross with a tapering octagonal
shaft; the cross surmounts a square base that bears the inscription
incised on slate tablets affixed to it. The whole memorial is set on
an octagonal stone base. There are 11 names for World War 1 and 3 for
World War 2. The slate panels are replacements for the original carved
names on the memorial that had weathered. The memorial was dedicated
by the Bishop of Leicester and unveiled by Lt-Col. Sir Hereward Wake
4th December 1920; the builders were Messrs J G Pullen & Sons, the
memorial site costing £72.
