The marble monument, topped with a draped urn, is inside the gate on the right in St Edith’s churchyard (opposite the former Women’s Institute Hall) on the A157. The inscription is on one side, the names of the dead on two sides and the fourth side is blank. The church was declared redundant in July 1980 and subsequently demolished.

IN MEMORIAM THIS STONE IS ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS OF SOUTH RESTON TO THE HONOUR & MEMORY OF OUR BRAVE BOYS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THIS GREATEST OF ALL WARS 1914-18, AND ALSO AS A SMALL TOKEN OF DEEPEST RESPECT AND LOVE. MAY THEIR MEMORY BE CHERISHED FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION

ATKINSON	George	Private 40702, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Enlisted Lincoln while living at Castle Carlton. Killed in action 31 July 1917; this was the first day of the Battle of Pilckem (first phase of Third Battle of Ypres). The 2nd Lincolns were attached to 25th Brigade, 8th Division which was involved in this battle. Commemorated on Panel 21 at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. George Atkinson born in 1883 at Woodthorpe, son of Robert (a farm worker) and Alice (nee Birkett) Atkinson.
BRODDLE	Charles	Private 33515, 14th (Service) (2nd Barnsley) Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment. Enlisted Louth. Died of wounds 10 November 1917 age 29. Buried in Grave VI. D.19 at Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, Pas de Calais, France. Charles Frederick Broddle in born 1888 at Theddlethorpe, son of Joseph (a brickyard labourer) and Susannah (nee Horton) Broddle.
DENNISS	Clarence	Private 42451, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment (formerly Lincolnshire Regiment 17859). Enlisted Lincoln while living at Fotherby. Killed in action 4 November 1918, the day the village of Preux-au-Bois was captured by the British and the last action the 2nd Bedfords saw. Buried in Grave A.49 at Preux-Au-Bois Communal Cemetery, Nord, France. Born in 1899 at South Reston, son of Henry Arthur Denniss (a carpenter and wheelwright) and Edith Huffer. Brother of Ernest Denniss.
DENNISS	Ernest	Private 9145, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Enlisted Lincoln while living at South Reston. Killed in action 14 March 1915. Commemorated on Panel 8 at Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Ernest Sidney Albert born in 1892 at South Reston, son of Henry Arthur Denniss (a carpenter and wheelwright) and Edith Huffer. Brother of Clarence Denniss.
EVISON	John W	Private 551, 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Enlisted Louth while living at Gayton le Marsh. Killed in action 21 October 1917 age 36. Buried in Grave I. C.12 at Welsh Cemetery (Caesar's Nose) Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. John William Evison born in 1881 at South Reston, son of Thomas a farm worker and Elizabeth (nee Campian) Evison.
HAMILTON	Frank	Third Engineer, H.M.S. Princess Alberta, Mercantile Marine Reserve. Killed on active service 21 February 1917 age 26. The ship was acting as a fleet messenger and was sunk by a mine off the Greek island of Lemnos, in the Aegean sea, while travelling from Stavros to Mudros. Commemorated on Column 2, Panel 25 at the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon. Frank Hamilton born in 1891 at Kirkby la Thorpe, near Sleaford, son of Thomas and Annie (nee Lane) Hamilton. Thomas had been blacksmith, sub-postmaster and a trustee of the Elementary School, at South Reston.
HOODLESS	William	Private 48580, 20th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment), [formerly Lincolnshire Regiment 23094]. Enlisted Lincoln. Died 14 February 1917 age 41. Buried in Grave VII. F.3 at Contay British Cemetery, Contay, Somme, France. Saint Willie Hoodless born in 1876 at South Reston, son of Saint Barnabas Hoodless (a farm worker) and Lucy (nee Ironmonger) Hoodless. Brother of Arthur James Hoodless.
HOODLESS	Arthur J	Private 41739, 15th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Enlisted Lincoln. Died 4 August 1917 age 27. Buried in Grave Div. 62. I.G.5 at Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, Seine-Maritime, France. Arthur James Hoodless born in 1889 at South Reston, son of Saint Barnabas Hoodless (a farm worker) and Lucy (nee Ironmonger) Hoodless. Brother of William Hoodless.
JACKSON	Cyril R H	Lieutenant, 139th Squadron, Royal Air Force. Lt. Jackson, age 20, pilot of the Bristol F2B Fighter D8069, and his observer 2nd Lt. W. F. Keepin, age 17 from West Wratting, Cambridgeshire, were killed in action on 16 August 1918 when they were shot down near Trento by the Austrian Oberleutnant Friedrich Navratil of Flik 3J. They are both buried against the North Wall at Romagnano Communal Cemetery, near Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige, northeast Italy. Born about 1898 in India, Cyril Robert Howard Jackson was the son of Alfred Howard Jackson (born 1862 in North Reston), of Dubarry Estate, Pollibetta, Coorg, India and Christine (nee Hamilton) Jackson. He attended St Bees School in Cumberland. The Jackson family had links with North Reston and India.
KETTLEWELL	Charles	Private 14637, 8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Enlisted Louth while living at Gayton le Marsh. Killed in action 26 September 1915,age 18, at the Battle of Loos. The 8th Lincolns, as part of the 63rd Brigade - 21st Division, crossed over to France between 2nd and 13th September 1915. Their first day of action was 26 September. Commemorated on Panel 31 to 34 at the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Charles Kettlewell born in 1897 at South Reston, son of Henry (a farm worker) and Ellen (nee Carter) Kettlewell.
LILL	Joe	Private 6934, 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Enlisted Louth. Killed in action 1 November 1914, age 28, at the First Battle of Ypres. Commemorated on Panel 21 at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Joseph Lill born 1886 in South Reston, son of John (a farm worker) and Mary Ann (nee Cowley) Lill. Joe married Alice Coupland in 1909.
