| ALLEN | John H | Private
John Henry Allen (27167) 8th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment was born in
Barholm and enlisted in Grantham. He died on 20 April 1917 (aged
39) and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial (Bay 3 & 4). John
was the son of Jane Allen of 55 Liverpool Road, Islington, London,
and the late William Allen; and husband of Emily Allen of 17 Barholm,
Stamford, Lincs. |
| BENNETT | Geo W | Lance
Corporal George William Bennett (24400), 7th Service Bn South Staffordshire
Regiment was born in Brandon, Suffolk and enlisted in Oakham Rutland.
He died of wounds on 16 December 1916 (aged 25) and is buried in
Contay British Cemetery (grave VIII.E.25). George was the son of
Mr & Mrs G Bennett of 19 Barholm; and husband of Lavinia Bennett,
of 21 South St, Oakham, Rutland. |
| PICKERING | Geo W | Private
George William Pickering (9565), 1st Bn Lincolnshire Regiment was
born in Barholm and enlisted in Stamford. He died of wounds on 20
May 1917 (or 25 July 1916, aged 26 according to the CWGC). He is
commemorated in Barholm Churchyard. He was the son of John George
and Sarah Ann Pickering of Barholm. |
| STAPLEE | Chas C | Lance Corporal Charles Cyril Staplee (47257) 1st Bn Royal Fusiliers originally enlisted in the Army Service Corps (no 1417) in November 1914. He died on 31 July 1917 (aged 33) and is commemorated on the Menin Gate (Panel 6 & 8). He was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Staplee, of Barholm Manor. There is an additional memorial to Charles on the South wall of the nave of the Church (see below).

| TOMBLIN | John W | Lance
Corporal John William Tomblin (13352) was born in South Luffenham
and lived in Barholm. He enlisted in Grantham in the 7th Bn Lincolnshire
Regiment. He died of wounds on 12 July 1916 (aged 23). He is buried
in Barholm Churchyard (see picture below). |
| TOMBLIN | F Edwd | Private
Francis Edward Tomblin (12023) was born and lived in Barholm, and
enlisted in Stamford and served in the 8th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment.
He was killed in action on 26 September 1915 (aged 19) and is commemorated
on the Loos Memorial (Panel 31 to 34). He was the son of Thomas
and Elizabeth Ann Tomblin, of 16 Barholm, Stamford, Lincs. |

| TROLLOPE BELLEW | Anthony Froude | Lieutenant
Anthony Froude Trollope Bellew (222332) 2nd Bn Rifle Brigade died
on 2 November 1942 (aged 20) and is buried in El Alamein War Cemetery
(grave VI.F.22). He was the son of Colonel Froude D Trollope-Bellew,
DSO, MC, and the Hon Mrs Nesta Trollope-Bellew, of Crowcombe, Somerset. |
| DACK | Edward Harold | Driver
Edward Harold Dack (T/187750) was born in the Stamford District.
He served in the Royal Army Service Corps and died on 9 February
1944 (aged 27). He is buried at Anzio War Cemetery (grave IV.L.10).
He was the son of William Hugh and Jessie Dack (of Barholm); husband
of Gwendoline Nora Dack (nee Hughes), of Sawtry, Huntingdonshire. |

| TROLLOPE | Thomas Carew (Bart) | In
addition, on the wall of the north nave aisle of the church there
is a bronze plaque
To
the beloved memory of The Trollope family owned land in Barholm and lived at Casewick (in the neighbouring parish of Uffington – where Lord Kesteven is commemorated on the war memorial) and Crowcombe (where Lord Kesteven is buried). Lord Kesteven’s sister was Mrs Nesta Trollope-Bellew – the mother of Lt Anthony Trollope-Bellew (see WW2 memorial above). |
