SPARSHOLT WAR MEMORIAL

The Sparsholt memorial stands outside the wall of St Stepphen's Church; it is in the form of a Two stepped octagonal brick base that is surmounted by octagonal brick plinth, concrete top and wooden Latin cross. The inscription is carved on the top of the concrete top and on a tablet set onto the front face of the plinth. Names are repeated on the top and on the tablet. There are 13 names for World War 1 and 10 for World War 2. See Paul Goodwin's UK Memorial web site for more photographs.

Son of William George and Annie Rosa Bishop; husband of Ivy Kate Bishop, of Kingsworthy, Hampshire. Buried in AMSTERDAM NEW EASTERN CEMETERY, Noord-Holland, Nertherlands. Plot 69. Row B. MUNTZ	Sir Gerard Philip Graves	Lieutenant, H.M. Submarine Regulus, Royal Navy. Lost with his ship 6th December 1940. Baronet. Son of Sir Gerard Albert Muntz, Bt., and of Lady Muntz (nee Graves), of Sparsholt, Hampshire. No known grave. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire. Panel 37, Column 1. Note: H.M. Submarine Regulus, Class R Submarine, pennant N 88, built by Vickers Armstrong (Barrow-in-Furness). Laid down 17th July 1929, launched 11th June 1930, commissioned 7th December 1930. HMS Regulus (Lt.Cdr. F.B. Currie, R.N.) left Alexandria to patrol in southern Adriatic on 18th November 1940. She is most likely mined on 6th December 1940 off Taranto, Italy.
