the Glory of God This cross placed here by the inhabitants of Hammoon.
In the memory of Pte H Kerley (Dorset Regt) & Pte W Kerley (Dorset
Regt) & Pte W G Long (Hampshire Regt) who gave their lives for their
country in the Great War AD 1914-1919.
And is a token of thankfulness for the safe return of their comrades-in-arms
whose homes are in the Parish.”

May 1915, aged 24. Commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial
Panel 37. Born 1890 Wyke Regis and resided at Sturminster Newton
when he enlisted. |

aged 35. Buried St Sever Cemetery Ext Rouen P. III. E. 10B. Born
Winfrith or Wareham 1882 and resided at Charlton Marshall when he
enlisted. |

Private
17181, 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment. Born Wincanton and resided
at Blandford when he enlisted at Oxford. Killed in Action 6th August
1918. Aged 30. Son of Mr Walter G and Annie Long of Hammoon, Sturminster
Newton. Listed on the Helles Memorial. |
