The memorial is located within St Mary the Virgin Parish Church, Down St. Mary, Devon and takes the form of a black marble plaque mounted upon which is a white marble tablet with the inscription and names in black lettering. There are nine names for World War 1 and two form World War 2.

BERE	Stanley Edgar	Private 19501 [SDGW] or B/19502 [CWGC & Medal Card], 26th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Died 12 June 1917. Born Exmouth, enlisted Kilburn, resident Hampstead. Son of Edwin and Elizabeth Tremlett Bere, of Copplestone, Devon; brother of Oswald Bere (below). Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot V. Row E. Grave 16.
BERE	Oswald Adams	[Listed as BERO on SDGW] Private 242019, "B" Company, 2/8th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. Killed in action 28 August 1917. Aged 23. Enlisted Exeter, resident Copplestone, Devon. Son of Edwin and Elizabeth Tremlett Bere, of "Lynwood," Copplestone, Devon; brother of Stanley bere (above). Formerly 5658, Worcestershire Regiment. No known grave. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 75 to 77.
COCKRAM	George	No further information currently available - cannot find sutiable match that makes sense on CWGC or SDGW
GRIBBLE, MM	Charles	Sergeant R/17233, 13th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Died of wounds 10 January 1918. Aged 27. Born Down St Mary, enlisted Exeter, resident Morchard Bishop, Devon. Son of Mrs. M. J. Gribble, of Brickyard, Morchard Rd., Copplestone, Devon. Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). No known grave. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 115 to 119 and 162A and 163A. [He and MEARDON below must have enlisted at the same time as they are both 13 B., K.R.R.C. and their service numbers are sequential]
MEARDON	Robert	Rifleman R/17234, 13th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Killed in action 18 July 1916. Aged 21. Born Barnstaple, Devon, enlisted Exeter, resident Copplestone, Devon. Son of Henry and S. J. Meardon, of 3, Station Rd., Copplestone, Devon. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 13 A and 13 B.

TOWT	Leonard Charles	Private 15957, 2nd Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment. Died of wounds 29 April 1916 in Mesopotamia. Aged 18. Born and enlisted Down St. Mary. Son of Charles and Harriett Towt, of Down St. Mary, Bow, Devon. Formerly 15685, Devonshire Regiment. Buried in AMARA WAR CEMETERY, Iraq. Plot VI. Row D. Grave 7.
WEBBER	Henry	Stoker 2nd Class K/29037, H.M.S. Defence, Royal Navy. Died 31 May 1916. Aged 25. Son of Henry and Sarah Ann Webber, of Down St. Mary, Bow, Devon. No known grave. Commemorated on PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon. Panel 16.
BUTT	Samuel William [Voden]	Private PLY/17013, 1st Royal Marine Battalion, Royal Naval Division, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Died 24 March 1917. Aged 23. Son of Francis John and Ellen Butt, of Sturridge, Sandford, Crediton, Devon. Buried in PUCHEVILLERS BRITISH CEMETERY, Somme, France. Plot VI. Row E. Grave 44.

ELWORTHY	Arthur James	Sergeant 1013219, 40 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 11 July 1944. Age 20. Son of Stanley and Kathleen Elworthy, of Down St. Mary, Devon. Buried in MILAN WAR CEMETERY, Italy. Plot VI. Row E. Collective grave 11-15.
QUANT	Stanley Hermon	Guardsman 2658853, 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Died between 23 and 24 May 1940. Aged 23. Son of Hermon George and Louie Ellen Quant, of Down st. Mary, Devon. Buried in LEERS COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord, France. Grave 3.
