The memorial is located on the left, just inside the entrance to All Saints Church Mickleover, overlooking Etwall Road, in a plot of land between the churchyard and the road. The memorial takes the form of a limestone Latin cross with trapezoidal bronze plaques on the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock faces of the base; the Inscription is in raised lettering in upright roman capitals. A stone vase lies on each side of the base. The memorial was unveiled 23 May 1920 by Major General Sir Arthur Reginald Hoskins, KCB, CMG, DSO. The sculptors were W Gadsby & Co. There are 26 names listed for World War 1 and 20 names for World War 2. The names have been sorted into alphabetical order here.

The second part of the Mickleover war memorial scheme consisted in the acquisition of a permanent building for use as an institute. A considerable sum of money remained the hands of the treasurer after the payment of expenses attending the erection of the beautiiul stone cross on the church front, but it was found that this would be nothing like sufficient to meet the cost of an erection such as was contemplated.

A considerable number of meetings had to arrive at a solution of the problem, and the proposition seemed doomed to failure when Mr. Preston Jones, of Mickleover House, generously presented the village with the fine large Y.M.C.A. hut which for some time past occupied a place in front of tho Midland Station at Derby. Mr. Preston Jones has also undertaken to defray the cost of removal and the erection of the hut on the plot of land on Station-road that has been secured for it.

The Memorial Committeo are responsible tor the drainage, the excavations, and the foundations; and they arranged a public meeting in the' Council Schools to invite volunteers to offer their services during the evenings and on Saturday afternoons to do the digging and draining, bricklaying, and carrying and carting of bricks, sand etc. Mr Arthur S. Ayre, of St. John's Lodge, presided, supported by Messrs. H. Ekins, E. W. Nadin, and others. Explanations to what was required were given Mr Ekins and Mr. W. Nadin, while Mr. Richard Jerkins offered some useful suggestions as to the method of executing the work. Mr. T. Radford pleaded for a hearty and enthusiastic response. A vote of thanks having been accorded Mr. Preston Jones for his gift a hearty response was given the chairman's call tor voluntary workers, all grades and all trades offering their services in a cheery whole-hearted manner.
